Lens Testing Studio

You can't have an optics museum without a testing facility for lenses. Having an optics lab helps you clearly understand it, and enjoy sharing it with others. Museum is like a university without test exams, and it has the patience of a teacher who keeps teaching something over and over again without expecting anything back. That's why people who fail at school often go to a museum to learn at their own pace. So having known that, our responsibility was to know as much as a university teacher. They'd teach with text books, but we did it with videos, displays, and science toys. In any case, we tested, and serviced lenses to understand their real value, and to understand optics.

Left, video sensor testing setup, right, video testing setup for checking color response, and dynamic range.

Left, interferometer testing of optics, like this Celestron primary mirror. Right, MTF (Modulation Transfer Function) testing of a Zeiss Compact Prime.

Playing with lenses! Video, and cine lenses can only be learned by comparison. A good collection of lenses builds up your knowledge in optics.
