Minolta SRT-101 competed head to head with Canon FT-b in 1970's

Minolta was established in 1928 as a high quality camera manufacturer in Osaka Japan. In 1979, they signed a contract with Leica to joint produce cameras such as Minolta CLE (leica CL), and Leica R3.

 

In tthe professional arena they produced Minolta MK to compete with Canon F-1, and Nikon F2AS. Their breakthrough camera was Minolta Maxxum, but had leagal lawsuits with Honywell over the auto-focusing patents they had infringed.
