Sony Cine Lenses

Sony began its video lens technology a long time ago. In early 90's, Sony introduced the HD format, and It has been offering professional lenses for the HD, and lately for 4K formats. Sony lenses cover the Super 35 format, and they don't increase their sensor sizes for professional cameras  from HD 1070X1920, to 4K, or 8K. In cameras like RED, the format size changes depending on the resolution setting, or fps (frames per second) rate. Sony cine lenses will not cover the full frame format like Zeiss compact primes. They neither offer wide aperture lenses such Zeiss offers with their Master primes. So here are three lenses from Sony offered in PL mount, at maximum aperture T2 with comparatively good optical performance similar to Zeiss Compact Primes for the HD Super 35 format.

Sony sensor size does not change from one size to the other with changing resolution or frame rates. RED cameras, on the other hand, change their format depending on the set resolution, and frame rate.

Sony's standard adapter to PL mount (left), and to Niko Sony's lower end model EX3 (right) also offers full HD format, and  interchangeable lenses but lenses for EX3 will only cover the 1/2" format sensor size, and can't fit on the F3's FZ mount (above) because they won't cover the Super 35 format.

As for electronic contacts between the lens, and the camera, Sony  lenses for solid state memory camcorder have a 4 contact connection, telling the camera the focused distance, type of lens, and diaphragm setting to be recorded in memory card during shooting.
