Documentary Videos

Having a camera, and watch museum, we invited many retiring university teachers, skilled craftsmen, painters, and artists to our studio to make documentary films about their inspiring life. We were so much interested to save their story, and we ended up making many short videos related to watches, and optics. We even made movies not so related. In the war of art, what is so related is how far we are willing to go to reach, and become what we love. I was in the middle of shooting a film on Persian rug design (below), and someone asked me why? That started me thinking about it at a much deeper level. I realized there was a connection between the book I was writing on Leica cameras, and what happened to hand made Persian Rug. They were both a victim of mass produced economics. I thought what Leica did to survive could also help the Persian rug industry.

Museums have been ambivalent about the human experience, and have mostly focused on objects. What industrial designer Dieter Rams says about design is what Antoine Exupery says about the "flower" in his book "The Little Prince". Rams says every product has a story, and it's about the people who were behind that product. "You really can't understand a product without knowing it's story."

Professor Abas Sedghi at our studio talks about his inspiring life. He shared studying economics at Berkeley, and working at Bank of America

A short film about Mohsen Mousavi focusing on his work, and philosophy. He designed a watch face with Farsi Calligraphy for OMiD museum.

Rostam Moharami came to OMiD museum, and we learned about his watchmaking factory, and made a movie about his lifetime of watchmaking.

Mr Kafi (left) visiting OMiD museum, to show his handcrafts (R). We were so interested in his work because the watchmaking world lacks such skills.
