Zeiss Prime Lenses

Zeiss primes are  among some of the best in the world in both quality in both optical resolution, and MTF (Modulation Transfer Function). We have two instruments to check optics: A lens projector by Pearl, and a MTF tester by Opticos. Zeiss lenses having T1.3 do great at their wide open aperture. The resolution on a lens projector reaches 140-200 lines per mm.

There are three main categories of Zeiss lenses: Compact primes (at T 2) costing around $5k each, Zeiss Ultra Primes (at T1.5) costing around $16K, and Maser Primes (at T 1.3) costing around $25K.

Cine primes are optomechanically designed with exact tolerances to prevent image shift during focusing, and aperture change. Cinematic lenses are more expensive because they have to function while filming.
